Morphological Variation in Leucopogon rufus Lindl.: A Preliminary Study

National Herbarium of New South Wales, Royal Botanic Gardens, Mrs Macquaries Road, Sydney, NSW 2000, Australia

Leucopogon rufus Lindl. is a widespread and morphologically variable species found throughout south-eastern Australia. Ordination and cluster analyses suggest that the specimens can be separated into two or more clusters primarily based on vegetative and floral features, particularly that of indumentum, a character that has previously been regarded as unreliable inLeucopogon. The results indicate that phenetic clustering does occur across the geographic range ofL. rufus. However, since inter-population variation is inadequately known these taxa are not formally recognized here.
