Hyperforin Accumulates in the Translucent Glands of Hypericum perforatum

Jens Soelberg, Lise Bolt Jørgensen and Anna K. Jäger

Annals of Botany 99: 1097–1100, 2007

Unfortunately in Fig. 1D there were errors in the chemical structural formulas for hyperforin and isopentenyl diphosphate, and the scale bars for Fig. 1B and C were omitted. Dimethylallyl diphosphate (the isomer form mentioned in the text) replaces isopentenyl phosphate in the figure, the correct version of which is given below. We apologize for these errors.

FIG. 1. (A) Tip of axillary leaf of H. perforatum; note translucent and dark glands. (B) Cross-section of leaf with translucent gland and (C) paradermal section of leaf with translucent gland; note chloroplast-containing cells delimiting the gland. (D) Compounds of hyperforin synthesis (compounds originating from the synthesis of monoterpenes taking place in chloroplasts are enclosed by stippled lines).
