Sex ratio and reproductive effort in Juniperus communis along an altitudinal gradient

In dioecious species, reproductive effort is usually greater for females. Ortiz et al. (pp. 205-211) show that, in J. communis, reproductive effort is higher for females and the sex ratio is male biased. However, growth data do not support the hypothesis that reproductive cost differs between sexes.
