Adaptation of white clover to low temperatures

Cultivars of white clover are frequently grown at sites that experience winters colder than the conditions under which they were originally bred. Collins et al. (pp. 283-292) analyse physiological responses to low temperature of clover populations grown at the limit of their intended range. The unsaturated fatty acid content of tissue lipids is identified as an important adaptive response in such populations.
