Root mucilage immunolocalized

An antifucose antibody raised using BSA-fucose as antigen is shown by Sinha Roy et al. (pp. 293-299) to cross-react with root mucilages from various grasses. Immunogold localization by electron microscopy shows the presence, in maize and wheat, of fucose epitopes in cell walls, middle lamellae and in dictyosome-derived vesicles of the outermost layer of cells of the root tip.
