Biogeographical relationships in a continental-insular endemic complex

Using RAPD markers, Rossello et al. (pp. 321-327) show that Balearic populations of the Hippocrepis balearica complex are more closely related to each other than to continental populations. Molecular data suggest that similarities between continental and insular samples recovered by morphometric methods are due to convergence or to retention of plesiomorphic features.
