Glufosinate-tolerant tobacco plants

Transgenic tobacco plants were generated that harbour a chimeric gene consisting of the 5' upstream sequence of adenylate kinase gene of rice fused with the gene encoding phosphinothricin acetyl transferase. Fukuzawa et al. (pp. 351-354) show that such transgenic plants possess tolerance to glufosinate applied at a rate four times higher than its commercial dose.
