We wanted to ask whether the rhythmic pattern of shoot elongation should be taken into account for the micropropagation ofCitrus aurantium L. and whetherin vitro culture altered the rhythmic properties. It has been established in the present work that (1) where and when the axillary buds are excised with respect to the elongation cycle are of importance to optimize micropropagation and (2) the infradian rhythmic growth pattern of micropropagated plants is maintained with a period of 45.8d not significantly different from that of plants derived from seeds (42.4d).

Citrus aurantium L.; excision-timing; infradian rhythm; micropropagation; rythmic growth; sour orange
