About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover illustration: The cover inset shows a flower of meadow sage (Salvia pratensis) being visited by a honeybee. The staminal lever mechanism deposits pollen on the bee's abdomen. This mechanism is put in a new functional light by the innovative technique of longi-sectioning the flowers and watching bees visit these `open' flowers. See Reith et al., pp. 393-400.
