Cover illustration: The inset photograph shows chromosomes of the allopolyploid grass Millium montianum (2n = 22) following genomic in situ hybridization. The eight large chromosomes originating from diploid M. vernale, or some close relative, fluoresce yellow, whilst the remaining 14 chromosomes are stained red by propidium iodide; their genomic origin is currently unknown. See Introduction (pp. 737-746).
