Cover illustration: The cover photograph is of Viola etrusca, an endemic of southern Tuscany in Italy. Two groups, a south westerm population and a northern population grow in similar habitats but show differences in their content of essential oils. This variation suggests that V. etrusca is undergoing slow schizogenous differentiation arising from genetic isolation. See Flamini et al., pp. 493-497.
