About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover illustration: Separation of sugars representing six major building-blocks of the hemicelluloses arabinoxylan and xyloglucan, and two other marker sugars. Living plant cells incorporate tritium from [3H]arabinose into hemicelluloses, which are then digested with ‘Driselase’. The products (after addition of non-radioactive internal markers) are resolved by paper chromatography. The lightly stained spots are finally cut out and assayed for radioactivity by scintillation-counting. See Popper and Fry (pp. 91–99).
